The Public Association "Kuhhoi Pomir"
The Public Association "KuhhoiPomir" has been operating since 2007. It operates on the territory of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) of the Republic of Tajikistan, which is also called Pamir or figuratively the Roof of the World.
The main goals of the organization are the study of the philosophy of life of highlanders, their bioculture and the environment in the context of “Man. Culture. Nature". The projects of the PA “KuhhoiPomir” are aimed at increasing the access of the population of the highlands to local natural resources and wealth.
The organization's projects explore the culture and behavior of humans in the wild and study the traditional use of wildlife in mountain conditions. Many knowledge and experiences of mountain peoples on the effective use of wild fauna and flora were collected and documented by experts and volunteers of the organization.
The work resulted in the emergence of several public clubs of wildlife lovers in remote places, which took the use of local wildlife under public control. The ultimategoal of this initiative is the use of its own natural resources for the purpose of socio-economic development of the area. People within the framework of traditional attitudes to nature, current laws and orders of the state gradually take control of hunting and eco-tourism in localities, they demand the implementation of armor through the community in order to spend the money on the socio-economic development of the community.
Every year, the public association "KuhhoiPomir" organizes a wildlife festival in various parts of the Pamirs. The main purpose of these festivals is to attract the attention of the population to the protection and preservation of wildlife with all its rare fauna and flora. Festivals are traditionally held in the most remote places, where much less information is received, including those of environmental nature. During the day, wildlife for people turns into a forum where people talk about traditional methods of nature conservation, about human culture in nature. Year after year, festivals are gaining more strength and the organization is trying to make it a common holiday in the country.
Another project of our organization is the study of the ancient culture of gathering among the Pamir peoples, about how they skillfully and economically used the flora of the wild for centuries. The Pamir peoples, living in deep natural and climatic isolation, always used wild fruits, berries, and herbs in their food. Special technology they dried many species and saved until next summer. Wild fruits and medicinal herbs not only helped to escape from hunger, but also had healing benefits. Collecting the experience and knowledge of their ancestors, now with the help of the PA KuhhoiPomir, firms have been established in the Pamirs that, using traditional knowledge and modern scientific and technological assets, have set up the collection and packaging of those healing wild berries, fruits and herbs that were previously used extensively , but in during the years of Soviet power began to be forgotten. Once again, the use of such wild plants and herbs is of paramount importance in a changing climate.
The organization has a number of publications in the form of individual books and brochures on the culture of hunting in the Pamirs, on the traditions of using mountain berries for food, on the production of various types of food products from flour and grain, which are not only nutritious, but also health.
The Public Association “KuhhoiPomir” was accredited at UNESCO in 2018.
